Their tail ends are sparsely coated in black hair. They have short ears and relatively huge black eyes in comparison to their body size. They range in length from 14 to 17 inches (36 to 43 centimeters) and weigh between 2 and 3 pounds. Prairie dogs are omnivores, which means they eat both plants and animals. They feed on roots, seeds, grasses, and leaves.
